My take on the world cup domestic violence ads.

Here's an interesting ad campaign.

During the 2018 football world cup, these billboard ads went up.

Flying with the slogan: "If England get's beaten, so will she", it highlighted the link between domestic violence and football.

Quite controversial, and hard to localise ( Turning a nation's flag into a facial injury)

Here are the Belgian, Swiss, Japanese and French Versions:


Kinda clever, very direct. But something bothered me about them, and not just the implications of the message. I think I felt that blaming football and national pride was missing an important point.

Here's the England version:


More specifically, the suggestion that domestic abuse only happened once every four years. I felt there were more consistent factors that could be blamed that would explain why it happens all the time.

Then I figured it out, it's not football, or national pride.
A much more consistent variable would be alcohol. So, I made this:

I'm celebrating 5 years of sobriety in October, so posting this seems like a good way to celebrate!
